Production
Somerset Film has a growing track record in successful public service film production, employing a core team
who, together with talented freelancers, have all the skills necessary to create effective, dynamic digital media.
Additionally businesses have been attracted to commission our services and this work helps to fund our commitment to community and education. We also teach, train and facilitate individuals and communities to make the most of their creative potential. We take on bursary students and offer work experience on various productions to develop creative capacity across the county.
Projects in 2008 included:
• Short Web Films | On deprivation of liberty and the Mental Capacity Act with Biggerhouse Productions
• Kick Starting Health | Film on healthy weight for primary school parents, governors and teachers
• Series of films | On Gypsy travellers for the new Museum of Somerset
• Trading Places | Films highlighting gender imbalance in the workplace for Learning SW
• Restorative Justice | Documentary on restorative justice for the Youth Offending Team
• Red Hood | Motion graphics film on internet safety for primary school children
• Dictionary of Signing | Our second CD ROM
for Total Communication
• Forever | Cautionary film highlighting the dangers
of excessive drinking.
• Scisational | Two films on innovative techniques
for learning physics
• Mini Masterpieces | Two first time films with young people commissioned by SW Screen
Projects for 2009 already include:
• Local Life in Film & Video | Seeking archive film across the county and offering training to budding community chroniclers in a Heritage Lottery/SW Screen project with Trilith Video
• Hear Say! | Disabled young people tackling the news agenda with help from BBC/ITN and Calling the Shots
• Reveal Somerset | Bringing digital media to the mix in visual arts with Somerset Art Works and The Brewhouse through Somerset Thrive
• New website | Co-built with young people for the
new Museum of Somerset
• Digital short | Producing our third film with SW Screen
• Bridgwater Carnival | New film project led by director Julien Temple (Black Lamp Cinema)
