Developing the next generation of filmmaking talent....

APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN!

BFI Film Academy for those aged 16-19 makes its debut in Yeovil this Autumn, applications are now open

Young filmmakers, scriptwriters and media creatives from across Somerset have the chance to fulfil their dreams, thanks to the British Film Institution (BFI) Film Academy Programme in partnership with BAFTA and Pinewood Film Studios.

In October, successful applicants will receive seven jam-packed days of masterclasses, screenings, career guidance, mentoring and hands on workshops plus the chance to meet industry professionals and make two short films. This year the Academy, run by Somerset Film, is making its debut in Yeovil. Previously the course has only been run from their base, The Engine Room, Bridgwater.

The next academy takes place in Yeovil, venue TBC on 19th/26th/28th/29th/30th/31st October and 1st November 2019 10am - 5pm each day.

It costs £25 to participate, however if young people feel they will struggle to pay the course fee, then they are still encouraged to apply as the fee can be waived. Bursary places and help with transport and other costs are also available.

The BFI Film Academy is aimed at those who are interested in pursuing a career in the film and media industry, whether as a script writer, set carpenter, cinematographer or director. You don’t have to be currently studying film or media to apply.

uzwxwxi9-2BFI CEO Amanda Neville saysNothing gives me greater pleasure than seeing the BFI able to contribute to opening doors and offering opportunities for the next talented generation. We know how important it is for us to do this, to nurture and support the gifted and talented, wherever in they are in the UK, because the future of our industry depends on them. Now in its eighth year, the Academy has established itself as a gold standard training and development programme providing a spectacular springboard to careers in film and allied industries. This would not be possible without the backing of the Department for Education and all our partners, and the many individuals from the industry who enthusiastically share their experience and offer guidance to students. We thank them all for their continuing support and wish all participants in the BFI Film Academy a happy, creative and successful future career.
