We present Fritz Lang’s 1927 German expressionist science-fiction silent classic ‘Metropolis’ (1984 cut – 1 hr 20 mins). The plot sees Metropolis as a home home to a Utopian society where its wealthy residents live a carefree life. One of those is Freder Fredersen. One day, he spots a beautiful woman with a group of children, she and the children quickly disappear. Trying to follow her, he is horrified to find an underground world of workers who apparently run the machinery that keeps the Utopian world above ground functioning. What can Freder do to stop this horror…

To accompany ‘Metropolis’ ‘sci fi surf’ band Palooka 5 will providing a live soundtrack to Langs classic.

To open the evening there will be a screening Georges Méliès 1902 science fiction adventure ‘Impossible Voyage’. Jules Bushell, aka  ‘The Moopness’, will perform an improvised set on vintage analogue electronic musical instruments to accompany the classic film . The music will be a voyage of discovery to compliment the nature of the story.
