We present Fritz Lang’s 1927 German expressionist science-fiction silent classic ‘Metropolis’ (1984 cut – 1 hr 20 mins). The plot sees Metropolis as a home home to a Utopian society where its wealthy residents live a carefree life.

To accompany ‘Metropolis’ ‘sci fi surf’ band Palooka 5 will providing a live soundtrack to Langs classic.

Film Friday - for Neurodiverse Audiences ‘My Life as a Courgette’

Our final 'Film Friday' screening will be chosen by our team at Somerset Film, they chose, My Life as a Courgette, CERT PG (2016), a vibrant stop-motion animation.
Uplifting animated tale about a foster home for kids. Life is difficult for a boy who likes to be called Courgette until a girl called Camille arrives and changes everything.

Tickets cost £2 and include a cup of tea/coffee /squash. Under 14's must be accompanied by an adult.

So our showing of the 1924 Peter Pan comes with a score provided by classical harpist Elizabeth Jane Baldry. She also narrates the story of how the only surviving print of Peter Pan was discovered and restored in the nick of time, find out more.

In early March 2020, ten local residents embarked on a music and film-based project with Actiontrack Performance Company and Somerset Film to creatively capture life in the town. Just a few weeks later, Covid brought our established day to day routines to a halt and changed them dramatically over the ensuing months. This is a chance to see the completed final work and to hear the music specially composed for it, find out more.

The festival’s evening of heritage films is an eclectic mix of new material and archive footage from sources as varied as The Box archive in Plymouth to family attics. It wouldn’t be Wellington if there wasn’t material from the major factories such as Tonedale Mill, Swallowfield and Relyon but there is also a lovely black and white recording of the town celebrating the 1936 Coronation. Who knows, you might spot your great-granny amid the bunting, find out more.

A FREE evening of film exploring flood risk in Somerset and celebrating local community resilience.

‘Down by the River’ is a new documentary filmed during the summer of 2021. Commissioned by Somerset Rivers Authority and produced by Somerset Film, this beautifully shot film reveals the hidden challenges of the local landscape and gives a voice to local volunteers, highlighting the extraordinary work they do.

The evening at Bridgwater Arts Centre will also include archive film of Somerset from the archives. Highlights of these entertaining and instructive local old films include historic events as well as local groups such as the Home Guard and fundraising carnivals. The films reveal how communities have responded, not just to flood risk, but the many challenges they have faced over the years.

This free event promises to illustrate how valuable the experience of the past is in responding to new challenges such as climate change.

Light refreshments will be available.
