Share your Moments on Mendip

We’re delighted to be working with Mendip Hills AONB Service on a project that celebrates this wonderful landscape and we would love you to join in by sharing your photos of the area’s special qualities.

There are 12 'special qualities' that are individually important for the area, and when brought together, they are what makes the Mendip Hills an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and a nationally-important landscape.

The Moments on Mendip project is inviting the public to submit photos from the past or present of one or more of these special qualities - from the views, geology and archaeology, to the drystone walls, south-facing grasslands and wooded combes.

To celebrate and showcase local landscape and talent, the photos will create a new public online gallery, with a selection of the most unique and captivating forming part of an outdoor gallery in Cheddar Gorge on the evening of Sunday 22nd October. The outdoor gallery will unveil photographic artist Elizabeth Woodger's exciting new work celebrating the 12 special qualities of the AONB, with her images projected onto the rockfaces.

The project is being led by the Mendip Hills AONB Service in partnership with Somerset Film, The Mendip Society, and Windrose Rural Media Trust, and has been commissioned by Seed Sedgemoor Arts Council England’s Creative People and Places programme.

You can learn more about the special qualities, upload images, and view the galleries through the Mendip Hills AONB website at www.mendiphillsaonb.org.uk/exploring/special-qualities. The project has joined forces with Iszy.ai to enable people to easily upload images from their phone or computer. The deadline to submit photos is the end of September.

There will also be a free family drop-in event on the afternoon of Tuesday 29th August at Cheddar Community Pavilion for people wishing to find out more and improve their photography skills.
