Digital Transfer Service

Re-discover lost treasures with our digital transfer services.

We can digitise 8mm, Super 8mm, VHS and/or DV. After your film is digitised it can be transferred onto DVD, Blu-ray or a USB / hard drive ready for editing or sharing. We can also send video data files directly to you via Wetransfer.

Film Transfers:

8mm & Super 8

  • 3 inch Reel £20

  • 5 inch Reel £25

  • 7 inch Reel £30

    (PLEASE NOTE: Currently, we cannot transfer any sound from 8mm or Super 8 film reels.)

Video Transfers:

Betacam SP, U-Matic, VHS/VHS-C/S-VHS, 8/Hi8/Digital 8, MiniDV, DVCAM, HDV (large and small) & DVD

For transfer to video file (e.g. mov / mp4 which would be emailed to you via wetransfer and includes one free autoplay DVD if desired):

£40 for up to 2 hours of material + £10 per hour thereafter. 

For transfer to DVD, prices as above, plus these optional extras:

  • Add custom chapter markers - £10

  • Add custom menu - £10

  • Additional DVD copies - £5 per copy or 3 copies for £10

    (PLEASE NOTE: We can transfer NTSC (American) MiniDV/HDV but, currently, not any other NTSC formats.)

DVD Transfers

For a DVD transfer please ensure that this is your own footage, we can not duplicate copyrighted material - £ 10 per DVD.

Audio Transfers:

Audio cassettes, Vinyl & Reel-to-Reel 1/4” tape

We can create audio files (MP3, WAV or AIFF) of cassette tape recordings or 1/4” reel-to-reel tapes:

£20 for up to one hour of material + £10 per hour thereafter.

Where required, we can edit recordings and reduce noise.

(If the vinyl is scratched, we will be unable to digitise the vinyl record.)
We can only play the following tape speeds, 4.8cm (1 7/8 ips), 9.5cm (3 ¾ ips), 19cm (7 ½ ips).
We can not currently play 38.10cm (15 ips) or 76.20cm (30 ips).

Data Video Files extras:

We can supply new USB memory sticks from - £10

We can supply new USB-3 hard drives from - £60

Please note, Somerset Film has the right to refuse a transfer request should the process be deemed damaging.

We cannot accept any responsibility for any damage incurred during the transferring process and a successful transfer cannot be guaranteed.
