Activity | Photography Scavenger Hunt
Free activity. Pick up the activity sheet during The Engine Room Cafe opening hours (Monday - Friday, 10am - 3.30pm).
Be inspired by work exhibited in our young photographers’ showcase, then grab your camera or phone and get ready to explore!
Our playful scavenger hunt will provide creative photo prompts that you can find around town, from unusual textures and hidden reflections to moments of movement or pops of colour.

We're delighted to announce that Edie Evans has been selected as the Somerset Film Artist in Residence for 2026.
During their residency, Edie will explore how clay, sound and digital technology can transform Somerset's landscapes into immersive, accessible sensory experiences.
Screening | The Land Remains

Join us for an intimate screening of The Land Remains, followed by a special Q&A with filmmaker Boris Thompson-Roylance.
Film synopsis: Britain is an island shaped by memory, migration, and the persistence of the past in the present. Filmed over the course of a year, The Land Remains follows pre-Christian ceremonies and seasonal rituals across the country, asking how myth, landscape, and belonging continue to define the idea of Britain.
Workshop | Scriptwriting with Helen Tompson

Discover your inner writing voice, get to know it and uncover ways to use it to generate ideas. Helen Tompson will introduce you to the skills and techniques for scriptwriting and the role of a scriptwriter. Writing activities include creating characters, through which participants will develop a short script.

Event | Creative Network with Edie Evans

Artist Edie will be showcasing her immersive installation work, which will be developed using Somerset clay alongside techniques such as field recording, projection and 3D scanning.
She will discuss the creative process of this exploration and the experimentation with new technologies during her residency.
Screening | Pandaemonium (Cert 12)

Two screenings to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Pandaemonium, directed by Somerset’s own Julian Temple.
Starring John Hannah as William Wordsworth and Linus Roache as Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the film is a passionate story of poetry, love, betrayal and addiction, much of which was filmed on The Quantock Hills and Exmoor, including scenes shot in the gardens at Hestercombe.

This activity is inspired by the film Be Kind Rewind, where characters remake films in low-budget, homemade ways known as “Sweding”. We are encouraging you to create your own remakes of classic films using household items or homemade props.

We’re inviting young photographers aged 25 and under who live in Somerset to submit up to three photos for a public showcase at The Engine Room in August 2026. Images must have been taken since 2023 and should explore the theme of the natural world or climate change. Submit them by completing our Young Photographers’ Entry Form.
