We're delighted to present Soft Ground, a new interactive clay installation by Edie Evans, Somerset Film's Artist in Residence for 2026.

Working across sculpture, installation and ecology, Edie's practice is grounded in tactile, sensory-led processes that explore materiality, landscape and embodied making. During the residency, Edie has developed Soft Ground: Accessible Landscapes Through Digital Translation — a new body of research and creative practice investigating how physical materials, sound and digital technology can come together through interaction and touch.

Soft Ground is an interactive clay installation using materials gathered from the Somerset landscape alongside field recording, projection and 3D scanning. Through it, Edie explores new approaches to accessibility, material storytelling and sensory engagement with landscape, transforming Somerset's environment into an immersive, touchable experience.
